JK Front Drive Shaft, 1310 Series

Jeep JK front drive shaft noise. . . it is a common problem and is inevitable on nearly all lifted Jeep JK Wranglers. It comes down to the design. The stock drive shafts use Rzeppa type CV joints that were designed only to work in stock Jeeps. Two or three inches of lift is enough to cause these CV joints to fail (watch the video below). JK drive shaft rebuild kits just don't cut it. That is why almost all JK drive shaft replacements are upgraded to a double cardan design (a double cardan is also commonly referred to as a cv). The double cardan shaft will handle the angles that your stock drive shaft can not. The double cardan drive shaft is a time tested design that has proven itself in thousands of other Jeeps.

Tom Wood's 1310 series JK front shaft comes with the required output yoke for the transfer case and will bolt directly to your stock pinion flange. If you don't have stock flanges at both the transfer case and axle currently this shaft may not work and you should call us for more information.

Key product features

  • Double Cardan drive shaft design. Eliminates problematic CV joints, torn CV boots are a thing of the past.
  • 2" diameter 0.120" wall USA made DOM tube.
  • Extra long "X" spline for greater stability and greater range of movement.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Greaseable double cardan center ball.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints.
  • Comes with required transfer case yoke. (some "cheaper" shafts don't come with this yoke which means that you pay more in the long run)
  • Comes with new bolts for the double cardan with reduced heads for ease of installation.
  • Best of all every shaft can be custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.

IMPORTANT: Look at the chart in the product photos to make sure the 1310 series is right for you.

1310 Front Drive Shaft 2015 JKU

After hearing the dreaded "clunk" when turning left a few times I was pretty sure the CV joint on the forward shaft at the transfer case was probably shot as I noticed plenty of grease on top of the skid plate and vicinity. Removed forward driveshaft and test drove to verify. Got to say I wasn't happy replacing an OEM D/S with only 65K miles on it and NO LIFT. The MOPAR OEM replacement price was nuts for the same garbage. After watching a few DIY U-Tube videos, replacing with a Tom Woods 1310 Double Cardin presented a better option for both price and strength.
Install was a breeze compared to pulling off the old one. This was done in my driveway with a 2 ton floor jack, 2 jack stands, a six point 32mm deep well (this socket fit better than anything else in my tool box so I used it), 11mm box wrench, 15mm ratchet, loctite, silicone and a torque wrench for the 32mm pinion nut only because there's no way to get a torque wrench on the 11 mm bolts - star tight was acceptable. Since the skid plate was already off - changed the transfer case fluid out. After all buttoned up took the jeep out and drove it like a banshee in heat- zero clunks or vibrations, drives and feels better than new. FYI the forward double cardin will throw some residual grease up under the engine and you may smell it if the engine is hot the first time out - havent noticed it since - All in all very impressive upgrade and already shopping to do the rear 1310 for this stock 15 JKU and 1350s for the 18 JKU with AEV lift.

Great Upgrade

Discovered my front drive shaft was toast during a transmission change with rear not far behind. Looked at OEM replacements but the design is terrible and replacements expensive. Saw many good reviews for Toms drive shaft and so far it was the right choice. I've only got about 20 miles on them but quality is impressive. I've driven up to 75 mph with no vibration. The Jeep was in the shop for a new transmission the shop installed them. The mechanics and shop owner were impressed with the quality and will probably recommend them for future customers. I had the shafts at my door within a few days, great quality, and the ability to grease the universals and rebuild if ever needed. Old School craftmanship at it's best!

Best Replacement

Tom Woods 1310 front driveshaft replaced my factory front driveshaft, which fragged itself during a recovery. Tom’s arrived 3 days after ordering, greased and ready to go. Night and day difference, especially for the price and easy install.

Quality at a great price

Tom's driveshaft replaced my worn, overmatched stock unit. It has been flawless on the trail and vibration free on the street. Best value for a replacement driveshaft available.
