ZJ or WJ Rear Drive Shaft, Double Cardan
Rear drive shaft for either the Jeep ZJ or WJ Grand Cherokee. Double cardan type shaft, also known as a CV. This is what you need if your Jeep is lifted and you are experiencing vibrations or other problems due to increased angles. Shaft will require a slip yoke eliminator.
Tom Wood's Grand Cherokee drive shafts are built using only the highest quality components. Key features listed below.
- 2.5" diameter 0.083" wall USA made DOM tube.
- Forged slip yoke.
- Greaseable CV center ball.
- Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints.
- Comes with new CV bolts with reduced head for ease of installation.
- Best of all every shaft is custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.
Jeep Grand Cherokee rear drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. You can read more about how to measure in the link below.
IMPORTANT You must also measure the joint size where the shaft attaches to the rear axle. There are two possible joint sizes. Select the size that fits your yoke.
We recommend a new set of straps and bolts to securely attach your new drive shaft.
My custom drive line arrived when it was supposed to. It fit perfectly.
I'm a happy customer.
What a great driveline the only bad thing was the stickers that came in the package had a hole punched in them. Made me so sad I went wheelin Yee yee
I purchased a slip yoke eliminator kit for my '98 Jeep ZJ 5.9. I swapped out the NP249 for the NP242 and needed to install the SYE due to my lift and my kind of use. The SYE came fast and it also included the nose cone (with the seals installed), speedo worm gear and misc. hardware to install. The only thing more that I might ask out of this kit is all new C-clips. But the old clips I had were good enough. Everything fit up nicely. I've been running the newly modified NP242 for about 700 miles... no issues. I haven't REALLY tested it on the trail yet... but I have no worries.
AWESOME !!!!!! FOUND A 242 HD T CASE, INSTALLED YOUR SYE KIT ( REALLY NICE TO HAVE A COMPLETE KIT AND NOT A HACK AND TAP). MACHINE WORK AND INSTALLATION EXCELLENT. BOUGHT YOUR CV REAR SHAFT AFTER INSTALL. MEASUREMENT, FIT, AND FUNCTION ALSO PERFECT. WELL WORTH THE COST.. LOVE DRIVING MY WJ NOW. VIBRATIONS GONE. MORE PEP AND NO DRIVETRAIN SLOP WHEN ENGAGING GEARS... 2002 WJ OVERLAND, 4.7 HO, 2.5 INCH BB AND KEPT MY UPCOUNTRY SPRINGS, ADDED BILSTEIN 5100'S. REALLY NICE OVERALL PACKAGE FOR MY DAILY DRIVER......
I installed an NP231 with a SYE into a '96 Grand Cherokee that originally had an NP249. I needed a custom driveshaft and Tom Woods is known for quality, custom made shafts. After I submitted a few easy measurements, my custom shaft was delivered a few days later. The shaft fit perfectly and looks like it'll work great. I haven't had a chance to use it off road yet as my build isn't quite complete. But I'm sure with Tom Woods' reputation I will have nothing to worry about! Best of all, my order came with stickers...and I love stickers!
