Toyota CV Front Drive Shaft

This will not work for any Toyota trucks that have a solid axle swap (SAS) or a shackle reversal. If you have an (SAS) or shackle reversal please call us. Or if you have something else that is creating a unique set of problems and need a shaft with abnormally high angle, long slip, or high strength, look here and give us a call for more info.

This is what you need if your Toyota is lifted and you are experiencing vibrations due to increased angles. Also a great upgrade for Toyota that came with a stock double cardan drive shaft. This is only for vehicles with a drive shaft length of 40" or less. For shafts longer than 40", look here

Toyota drive shaft lengths and flange patterns vary. In our experience there is no single standard length or flange patterns for any particular model. To ensure that you get the right thing you will need to take a couple measurements before ordering your drive shaft. You need to measure the distance from your transfer case flange to your differential flange. You will also need to measure the bolt pattern at each end. It is important that you measure the bolt pattern on each end because they are often not the same at both ends.

Key product features

  • Uses 1310 series universal joints. These are the most common size of u-joint there is. Replacement joints are much easier to find than stock Toyota style joints.
  • Shaft uses 2" diameter .120" wall DOM steel tubing. Better quality and thicker tubing than stock Toyota shafts use.
  • Can be built using our greaseable Goldseal universal joints or non-greaseable  joints.
  • Includes 8 new 10mm bolts and nuts which may be required at either end of the shaft.

Please check out our Toyota tech page below. If you have any questions along the way, give us a call.

Scroll through the product photos for examples on what and how to measure.

Watch this video for a demonstration on measuring. The vehicle in the video is a Tacoma but the concept is the same for any Toyota.

USA!USA!

Japan's Double Cardan Drive Shaft is expensive but of poor quality.
Tom Wood's shafts are cheap and top quality!

1990 HDJ81 6" lift front dc shaft

fixed most of my front end vibrations, just like the many mud reviews say it will. my only criticism would be that the flanges are just a few threads thicker than original, and in this application, don't think I can replace the stud fasteners on the output from the transfer case, so you don't get the same amount of exposed threads on the other side of the flange (I also knew this would be a possibility going it). It ships with new hardware, but for my application, I can't get the old studs out without possibly doing more harm than good. would still totally recommend to anyone trying to get rid of the death wobble. Shipping, packaging, and overall fit/finish of the drive shafts are excellent. thanks!

Great driveshaft

Was recommended Tom Woods over other online drive shaft manufacturer as well as Woods being cheaper than a local shop. Driveshaft came quickly and well packaged.
Installation was straight forward. Shaft has great clearance and has fixed my driveline vibrations. Would recommend to anyone looking for a CV driveshaft for an 80 series Land Cruiser front end.

Great product and customer service

First I would like to say that Jon went above and beyond when it came to customer service. My 1st drive shaft was shipped and UPS lost it. Jon stayed in contact with me the whole time while we dealt with trying to track it down. Jon said "I will get another one built and on it's way ASAP". Sure enough Jon is a man of his words and got a 2nd drive line built and out to me.

The 2nd drive line arrived and I installed it with no hiccups. The double cardan definitely helped eliminate the vibrations in the front, now time to address the rear. Buy another drive line from Tom's or replace the U joints.

Best part of it all, the first drive shaft did eventually show up after Jon had UPS put a trace on it, LOL!!!

Solved 80% of my issue, but disappointed in the shipping packaging

Overall, I would recommend this product. Having said that, I couldn't give a 5 star. The reasons, being, when the drive shaft arrived, the cardboard box packaging had been torn open on one end and the drive shaft had scratches and places where the recent paint had been scrapped off (probably from the package being thrown into the back of the delivery truck). Yes, when you order a product, you have no control over what will happen to that product via a 3rd party delivery service, such as FedEx or UPS. However, when you order a $500 drive shaft, I would expect more than a single layer of thin cardboard protecting the drive shaft from such "expected" actions, such as being thrown into the back of a delivery truck.

With the old drive shaft, my FJ80 had a bad grinding noise coming from the front drive shaft starting at around 60 mph. With the new drive shaft, I don't hear that same grinding until I hit ~75 mph, which is plenty fast for a 25 year old rig.
