Chevy & GMC IFS Double Cardan Front Drive Shaft

Upgrade your lifted truck with a high-strength Double Cardan (CV) drive shaft, designed to eliminate vibrations and handle the increased angles caused by suspension lifts.

Vehicle Compatibility

This shaft fits most 1995–2014 Chevy/GMC IFS applications (Silverado, Sierra, Suburban, Avalanche, Escalade) that meet these two specifications:

  • Transfer Case: Uses a slide-in splined attachment.
  • Front Axle: Uses a 3R Series U-joint.
Note on Identification: 3R series yokes do not have centering tabs. Instead, the joint is secured by internal c-clip snap rings. If you are unsure if you have a 3R or the later 1350 series, you can use the Joint Size Calculator at the bottom of this page.

For 2015+ trucks, solid axle conversions, or shackle reversals, please call us at 801-737-0757.

If you have an older solid axle truck, you will need something like this instead.

Why Upgrade?

Stock Chevy shafts often use lower-grade components that can wear or break under the stress of larger tires and lifts. Our Tom Wood’s shafts feature:

  • Smoother Operation: Double cardan design handles steep angles better than stock.
  • Heavy-Duty Build: 2" diameter tube with a thick 0.120" wall.
  • Serviceability: Includes a greaseable CV center ball for longevity.

Ordering & Measurement

Every shaft is custom-built to your specific length. We require a measurement before building to ensure a perfect fit.

How to measure: Measure from the end of the transfer case output sleeve to the edge of the yoke at the differential (axle) as shown in the photo below.

Installed a 6" Superlift kit on my Truck 20 years ago. The front drive shaft broke at the cardan and needed to be replaced. The kit is no longer available and the front driveshaft was discontinued. I had a local 4X4 shop build one, but it would cause vibration a highway speed. I searched the web and found Tom Woods had the very driveshaft needed to solve the problem.
I ordered the "Chevy IFS Front Drive Shaft". My truck has the Auto-Trac transfer case and uses a slide-in splined attachment at the transfer case and a factory size 3R series u-joint on the front axle.
The Tom Woods drive shaft arrived quickly and well packaged to prevent damage. The installation was easy and the fit spot on.
No more vibration at any speed. I am super pleased with the quality of the drive shaft and highly recommend to anyone needing a replacement. (Follow the measuring instructions)

I have always had issues with the driveshafts in this truck. After a lift kit install it was even more needed to upgrade. The website showed the perfect way to measure, I ordered it the weekend before Christmas and it was still at the house 3 days earlier then expected. Driveshaft fit perfect and the truck is smoother than ever before even new, the driveshaft looked amazing as well. Thank you.
