CJ Front Drive Shaft, Automatic Transmission

Upgraded Jeep CJ front drive shaft for Jeeps with automatic transmission or other clearance issues. 

Shaft is not to be used with shackle reversal spring setups. If you have a shackle reversal, call us.

CJ front drive shaft replacement is a good idea for almost any CJ that is still running a stock drive shaft. CJ stock front drive shafts used fairly low grade components. Add a lift, bigger tires, and decades of wear and tear and the result could be a badly worn or even worse a broken stock drive shaft. Tom Wood's CJ drive shafts are built using only the highest quality components. Shaft is built using narrow 1.25" diameter tube to enable clearance around transmission pan. Don't be fooled, this narrow tube is nothing like the narrow tube on your stock drive shaft. To add strength to this skinny tube, we use an extra heavy wall 0.188" thick DOM tubing.  Key features listed below.

Too big to fail.

The Tom Wood's drive shafts are way beefier than the originals. Believe it or not, that's not totally a good thing as by Jeep making the drive shaft the weak link in the drive train, you are less likely to strip out your differentials. Fortunately, I have no plans to exceed the design limits of the factory 4-wheel drive. There's not many Jeepers like me, and most CJ owners will not be satisfied until their Jeep is capable of climbing a shear rock face, towing a Caterpillar D9 Bulldozer. For those real American heroes, Tom Wood's drive lines should be just the ticket. By the way, I ended up buying from Tom Wood's after their nearby competitor jerked me around for over a month. Like most of their customer's, I had the product in just about a week. 8-days to be exact.

I bought this CJ Auto Driveshaft to put in my ‘42 Willys MB. I needed the smaller diameter shaft and a custom length and it fits just right. This thing is solid and went right from the box into the Jeep with no delay, it is ready to go. It came very fast, even close to Easter Jeep Safari.

CJ5 SBF swap

Installed driveshaft in 79 CJ5 with a small block ford to T18 transmission with clearance problems with the bell housing. The shaft bolted in exactly like it should and gave the needed clearance even with the suspension crossed up. I am very satisfied and would recommend their products and will be using them for future drive shaft needs.
