Excursion Double Cardan Rear Drive Shaft

If you've lifted your Ford Excursion you are probably experiencing vibrations that weren't there before. This is because the lift has changed the angles of the drive shaft. The solution is to upgrade to a double cardan rear drive shaft. This design operates much more smoothly at those increased angles.

Ford is notoriously inconsistent with the parts they used in stock vehicles so we need a couple measurements to build this shaft. You will need to measure the length and measure the flange patterns at the transfer case and rear axle flanges. Refer to the photos on this page for guidance. If you have something other than the options listed you will need to call us for more information or to order. 801-737-0757

We offer two sizes of shaft, in terms of size and strength of the components. The most common is the 1350 series shaft. However, if you have a diesel engine, very large tires, or plan on doing heavy towing with your Excursion you will need the 1410 series shaft. The 1410 series shaft will require and come with pass-through bolts, nuts, and lock-washers.

  • Double Cardan design is an upgrade which will alleviate angle related vibrations on lifted vehicles.
  • Built using either .083" wall DOM tube which is lighter and smoother at high speeds, or .120" wall DOM tube for extra dent resistance for serious off-roading.
  • Best of all every shaft is custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.
  • Choose between the standard 1350 series shaft or the bigger and stronger 1410 series shaft for vehicles with high torque and heavy use.

Wonderful quality

The look, feel, and confidence hit me before even installing the new, custom length double-cardan driveshaft. It resolved my vibration issues, and installed confidence in my drivetrain to pull my car hauler with 350,000 on my Excursion, versus my wife's 2021 6.7L. My Excursion can pull anything her can- just slower.

Thank you for an amazing, well-needed, high-quality driveshaft for my lifted relic!!!

P.S. thank you for the grease tip, but maybe let us know what thread zerk we should install? I think I used a 10mm and it worked. <- if you buy a greaseable double cardan like I did, they sent an adapter that needs a zerk so you can grease the pivot joint between the u-joints

Awesome driveshaft

Purchased this for my lifted 6.0 excursion. Not an aggressive lift, but I off-road and haul my family of 7, so I opted for the 1410 series. I chose this because it has the double cardon, which makes sense for longevity and being easier on U-joints. Ordered it, shipping was crazy fast, bolted it up in the same footprint as the last shaft. I had no idea how much of the trucks vibration was caused by the previous shaft. It’s smooth, no vibration at any mph. I couldn’t be happier with it. Even if your shaft is fine, if it’s OEM, it needs to be swapped with a Tom Woods shaft.

2000 7.3 Excursion 4X4 6”lift

Had a driveline vibration at 65 and above. Found out the double cardan joint was wore out. You can’t find a new rear driveshaft for the Excursion anymore. Found Tom Woods online, took the measurements they required, placed order and a week later I had my new driveshaft. Everything fit perfect, driveline vibration is gone. I will absolutely use them to build my front driveshaft when the time comes. Which is soon

My Excursion isn’t lifted it’s stock ride height. It developed a vibration between around 50 mph and continued to get worse as speed increased. After speaking to a driveline shop in the area they recommended a new driveshaft. Tom Woods was the answer, no more driveline vibrations!
