JL Wrangler Front Drive Shaft

Jeep JL front drive shaft noise. . . it is a common problem and is inevitable on nearly all lifted Jeep JL Wranglers. It comes down to the design. The stock drive shafts use Rzeppa CV joints that were designed to work in stock Jeeps. Two or three inches of lift is enough to cause these CV joints to fail (watch video below). JL drive shaft rebuild kits just don't cut it. That is why almost all JL drive shaft replacements are upgraded to a double cardan design (a double cardan is also commonly called a cv). This shaft will handle the angles that your stock drive shaft can not. The double cardan drive shaft is a time tested design that has proven itself in thousands of other Jeeps.

Tom Wood's 1350 series JL front shaft comes with the required output yoke for transfer case and will bolt directly to your stock pinion flange.

Key product features

  • Double Cardan design. Eliminates problematic CV joints, torn CV boots are a thing of the past.
  • 2" diameter 0.120" wall USA made DOM tube.
  • Extra long "X" spline for greater stability and greater range of movement.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints.
  • Comes with required transfer case yoke. (some "cheaper" shafts don't come with this yoke which means that you pay more in the long run)
  • Comes with new double cardan bolts with reduced head for ease of installation.
  • Best of all every shaft can be custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.

Jeep JL front drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. Measure as shown in the photo in the product photos on this page. You can measure with or without the stock shaft installed.

3rd Time's a charm!

I hate writing reviews. In fact I never write them. I didn't write reviews for the first 2 Jeeps I had Wood's shafts on. Hope this makes up for it. Tom Wood's driveshafts are so good and the guys over there were so great I lost sleep feeling so guilty for not writing a review. I had a few questions about the wall thickness on my driveshafts when I placed the order for my Jeep 392. No big deal. In fact I didn't even need an explanation and I just instructed the guys to do whatever they do even if they charged me more money. They took the time to call me and make a recommendation which was not to spend the extra money for my specific build. Shafts arrived in perfect condition to my location in Southern California in just a couple of days. Bolted them right up and they fit perfectly. So far so good. Since the Jeep 392 is basically full time 4wd and the front drive shaft is spinning all the time you'd be crazy to risk installing a driveshaft that could be out of balance from their competitors. Proud to say my shaft is a Woody!

it's the best

This is a front driveline for a 2022 4xe wrangler. It fit perfectly. It has 4.5 inches of travel in the slip joint when the competitors put 3 inches of travel into theirs. this gives you more insurance against over extending or fully compressing the drive line. Tom Woods explains why a 1310 driveline with the smaller 1310 u joints is not up to the task on the jl and I like that. I spoke to one of their staff on the phone and was impressed with the knowledge of the first person that picked up the phone. He answered all my questions in great detail. In a year or so I will be swapping in a one ton axle and was told they could shorten the driveline to fit for 70$ and they would pay shipping one way. The quality is great and it shipped the day after i ordered it. I will always use Tom Woods.
