ep JL Rear Drive Shaft

Jeep JL drive shaft noise. . . it is a common problem and is inevitable on nearly all lifted Jeep JL Wranglers. It comes down to the design. The stock drive shafts use Rzeppa CV joints that were designed only to work in stock Jeeps. Just a few inches of lift is enough to cause these CV joints to fail (watch the video below). JL drive shaft rebuild kits just don't cut it. That is why almost all JL drive shaft replacements are upgraded to a double cardan design (a double cardan is also commonly called a cv). This shaft will handle the angles that your stock drive shaft can not. The double cardan drive shaft is a time tested design that has proven itself in thousands of other Jeeps.

Tom Wood's 1350 series JL rear shaft comes with the required output yoke for the transfer case and the required pinion yoke. Please select whether you have the 35 or 44 rear end.

Key product features

  • Double Cardan design. Eliminates problematic CV joints, torn CV boots are a thing of the past.
  • 1350 series joints.
  • 3" diameter 0.083" wall USA made DOM tube.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Greaseable double cardan center ball.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints.
  • Comes with required transfer case flange and pinion yoke. (some "cheaper" shafts don't come with these necessary parts which means that you pay more in the long run)
  • Comes with all required attaching hardware.
  • Best of all every shaft can be custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.

Jeep JL rear drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. Measure as shown in the photo in the product photos on this page. You can measure with or without the stock shaft installed.

Jeep JL Rear Drive Shaft

JLUR on 3.5" lift. Needed peace of mind to tackle the Rubicon Trail and several others at the end of summer 2024. Ordered the 1350 drive shaft with 0.12" wall. Delivery to East Coast was only a few days. Install at transfer case was a breeze. Pinion yoke gave me some concerns as it did not slide on and needed some tapping or persuasion with a brass hammer. After torquing to 160 ft-lbs there was still a lot of backlash. Installed anyway and test drove for 30 miles. Some howl on coasting in 35-40 mph range. Called Tom Woods and got good advice on how I should tighten the yoke more even though I hit 160. Another half turn on the nut with an impact wrench tightened it up to remove the play. I did sneak up on it, but took that much to get there. No howl, noise or vibration noted afterwards. Great customer service and I appreciate the help. Being a newby to this swap and knowing I had to be careful of over tightening, I initially left it too loose. Happy trails and stay safe.

1350 Double Cardian driveshaft for JLUR

Been driving a 3" lifted Rubicon since 2019. Developed a thud over time from hard wheeling. Thud was when shifting into gear and sometimes when lifting off the throttle while road driving. Gear lash was same as when new. So I attributed to the OEM driveshaft.
Replaced the driveshaft 2 days ago and immediately noticed a difference. Other than that I can not testify to the longevity or quality of the product. I purchased Tom Woods because of great reviews and research.

Solid drive shaft

Needed this as I smashed my stock drive shaft. Ordered and two days later it was on my front porch. Install was straight forward and I can feel the difference. It felt a little off after the install so I reached out via email and got a response from Shaun Woods the same evening. He pointed me in the right direction to solve a loose bolt. Feels and drives great and their support is unmatched
