Jeep JL Rear Drive Shaft

Jeep JL drive shaft noise. . . it is a common problem and is inevitable on nearly all lifted Jeep JL Wranglers. It comes down to the design. The stock drive shafts use Rzeppa CV joints that were designed only to work in stock Jeeps. Just a few inches of lift is enough to cause these CV joints to fail (watch the video below). JL drive shaft rebuild kits just don't cut it. That is why almost all JL drive shaft replacements are upgraded to a double cardan design (a double cardan is also commonly called a cv). This shaft will handle the angles that your stock drive shaft can not. The double cardan drive shaft is a time tested design that has proven itself in thousands of other Jeeps.

Tom Wood's 1350 series JL rear shaft comes with the required output yoke for the transfer case and the required pinion yoke. Please select whether you have the 35 or 44 rear end.

Key product features

  • Double Cardan design. Eliminates problematic CV joints, torn CV boots are a thing of the past.
  • 1350 series joints.
  • 3" diameter 0.083" wall USA made DOM tube.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Greaseable double cardan center ball.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints.
  • Comes with required transfer case flange and pinion yoke. (some "cheaper" shafts don't come with these necessary parts which means that you pay more in the long run)
  • Comes with all required attaching hardware.
  • Best of all every shaft can be custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.

Jeep JL rear drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. Measure as shown in the photo in the product photos on this page. You can measure with or without the stock shaft installed.

Jeep JL Wrangler rear 1350 driveshaft

Hello, sending in my measurements and the time I received my new shaft delivered to my home was fast. Installation taking apart old shaft was harder than installing new shaft with new ends and easier hardware makes a world of a difference! Haha. 1350 u joints way better than OEM and stronger. Highly recommend Tom Woods. This is my second order with them. Great product!! Thanks again.

Very Happy! Ready for the rocks.

Two day delivery - had a shop install. Running great on the road no time in trail yet but looking forward to it.

Great product, lackluster instructions and packaging

The driveshafts arrived incredibly fast. The seemed to be VERY well made. I see why everyone sings this company’s praises. Packaging was kinda crappy for how expensive the products are. Paper and cardboard. Mine arrived scuffed up and paint missing because it had busted through the box in transit. Instructions described the process in the absolute broadest of terms and the sizes of the sockets listed in the instructions were way off. 2024 JL wrangler Willy’s needs a 32mm socket. Just a heads up for anyone ordering this shaft. Jeep seems to drive smoother now, which is an unexpected bonus. All in all, it’s nice but not sure it’s worth the cost of the product.

Wish I upgraded sooner.

Threw this on my JLU 4xe after dealing with some driveline noise. Quality seems way better than stock - good welds, balanced properly, everything lined up perfect. No more vibration or clunking from the driveshaft itself (turned out I had other issues with control arm bushings, but that’s another story).
Installation was pretty straightforward if you’ve got the tools. Make sure you torque everything to spec.
Been running it for a while now with no problems. Worth the money if you need to replace your driveshaft. Tom’s Wood knows their stuff
