JK Front Drive Shaft, 1310 Series

Jeep JK front drive shaft noise. . . it is a common problem and is inevitable on nearly all lifted Jeep JK Wranglers. It comes down to the design. The stock drive shafts use Rzeppa type CV joints that were designed only to work in stock Jeeps. Two or three inches of lift is enough to cause these CV joints to fail (watch the video below). JK drive shaft rebuild kits just don't cut it. That is why almost all JK drive shaft replacements are upgraded to a double cardan design (a double cardan is also commonly referred to as a cv). The double cardan shaft will handle the angles that your stock drive shaft can not. The double cardan drive shaft is a time tested design that has proven itself in thousands of other Jeeps.

Tom Wood's 1310 series JK front shaft comes with the required output yoke for the transfer case and will bolt directly to your stock pinion flange. If you don't have stock flanges at both the transfer case and axle currently this shaft may not work and you should call us for more information.

Key product features

  • Double Cardan drive shaft design. Eliminates problematic CV joints, torn CV boots are a thing of the past.
  • 2" diameter 0.120" wall USA made DOM tube.
  • Extra long "X" spline for greater stability and greater range of movement.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Greaseable double cardan center ball.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or non-greaseable joints.
  • Comes with required transfer case yoke. (some "cheaper" shafts don't come with this yoke which means that you pay more in the long run)
  • Comes with new bolts for the double cardan with reduced heads for ease of installation.

Replaced Rzeppa high angle OEM drive shaft

New Tom Woods 1310 drive shaft replaced my OEM front drive shaft with high angel rzeppa. High angel rezeppa only lasted maybe 1 year. It was making a lot of noise like no grease and angel is max out at 2.5” lift. After a lot of research reviews and youtube video. I made the decision to buy. Tom Woods drive shaft. Easy to install. In my garage with hand tools. Customer service answered my question I had about the install. Would recommend.

Fixed my drivetrain issue

I have a 2.5” lift that original owner never upgraded driveshaft. I wasn’t aware I needed to as well until recently hear an intermittent popping noise that would increase as I speed up, and go away when stopped. Checked underneath and noticed CV boot was torn on front shaft with grease line splatter on heat shields. Measured per online instructions and got in the mail within a week. Install very straightforward and now my noise is gone. Will replace the rear shaft at some point.

2016 JK Front Driveshaft

With a 3 inch lift the CV joint just gave up as the rubber boot began to tear. Rebuilding the joint was not an option if this was to happen again. The Tom Woods Driveline seems to be the answer at a good price point. The double-cardan joint has a little bit of noise or sound to it, I hope that's normal. Everything went smoothly on the install. The only thing that would be nice is the fact that you don't reuse the O-ring like most of the competition do, but are told to use "silicone" sealant on the splines. WHY NOT include that in the package? Also, a little more specific type of sealant would be helpful also. I had to call to ask and was told "just use an "RTV silicone sealant." Thanks for a good solution for my failing stock driveline!

Very prompt service! Even ordered a custom length and was shipped within a couple of days. Big snowstorm delayed arrival, but had nothing to do with Toms. Fit was perfect and now with the new yoke style, U-joint replacement will be easy.
