Toyota 4runner CV Rear Drive Shaft

This is what you need if your Toyota 4 Runner is lifted and you are experiencing vibrations due to increased angles. Also a great upgrade for Toyota that came with a stock double cardan drive shaft. This is a rear shaft only and can be made any length you need from 35" to 50" long. If you are looking for a front shaft look here. If you can't find exactly what you are looking for, give us a call.

Toyota drive shaft lengths and flange patterns vary. In our experience there is no single standard length or flange patterns for any particular model. To ensure that you get the right thing you will need to take a couple measurements before ordering your drive shaft. You need to measure the distance from your transfer case flange to your differential flange. You will also need to measure the bolt pattern at each end. It is important that you measure the bolt pattern on each end because they are often not the same at both ends.

Key product features

  • Uses 1310 series universal joints. These are the most common size of u-joint there is. Replacement joints are much easier to find than stock Toyota style joints.
  • Shaft uses 2.5" diameter .083" wall DOM steel tubing. Better quality tubing than stock Toyota shafts use.
  • Can be built using our greaseable Goldseal universal joints or non-greaseable  joints.
  • Includes 8 new 10mm bolts and nuts which may be required at either end of the shaft.

Please check out our Toyota tech page below. If you have any questions along the way, give us a call.

Best option out there.

Top notch, well built, perfectly balanced, nothing bad to say about it.

No more vibration, better fuel economy

I tried three junkyard driveshafts trying to get rid of vibration, after ruining my original driveshaft. I finally ordered one from Tom Woods, no more driveshaft vibration! I ordered the thicker DOM tubing, and got the non serviceable joints, and couldn’t be happier. My fuel economy has also increased a few mpg, it had gone down years ago when I did the lift and bigger tires.

No more vibrations

1997 Toyota 4Runner OEM rear driveshaft has been discontinued from OEM parts catalog
My OEM driveshaft was in dire straits at 295,000 thousand miles with severe vibrations when letting of the gas pedal
So my search started and I saw a video on YouTube about tom woods driveshafts and I liked what I saw on the video but of course I checked around my area in NC and found a drive line company that could build a custom driveshaft for my 4Runner but it was going to cost over $200.00 more than a tom woods and it was going to be built with a thinner wall tubing than a tom woods driveshaft so naturally I purchased a tom woods driveshaft AND I could not be any happier
My tom woods driveshaft is awesome
It shipped to me fast and it looked great right out of the shipping box
It mounted perfectly with new hardware to boot
It solved All my prior vibration problems on my 4Runner
It has rebuildable universal joints which is so much better than the OEM 4Runner driveshaft
(My local Toyota dealer will not rebuild a 1997 driveshaft the dealer just throws them away)
My only concern is a grease fitting in the double cardan joint I have never saw a grease fitting like the one in my tom woods driveshaft the directions state that you my have to uninstall the driveshaft to grease the double cardan joint so I greased the driveshaft before I installed it so only time will tell about this type of grease fitting
Other than my concern I would most definitely recommend a tom woods driveshaft
PS my 4 star rating is only on my concern of the weird grease fitting in the double cardan joint , if it takes grease installed it’s a 5 star all the way, if it has to be uninstalled it gets a 4 star

Not too many aftermarket parts are of higher quality than factory parts but a driveshaft from Tom Wood’s for sure is. The figment was perfect and it’s balanced better than it probably needs to be. Highly recommended, thank y’all!

It came with stickers!

Great stuff. Needed a stock replacement shaft for my 4Runner after I bent my OEM shaft on the trail. Fits perfectly, no vibration, and most importantly, it came with stickers!
