WK Front Drive Shaft
Double cardan replacement for your Rzeppa CV style front drive shaft. This is what you need if you've been experiencing problems with CV joints wearing out. Built with universal joints instead of Rzeppa CV joints for added strength and reliability. Make sure to identify and select the type of attachment you currently have at the axle end of your drive shaft. If you have more than 4" of lift you may need a shaft with a double cardan at each end, call us to order this type of shaft and click the link immediately below for more details. This shaft will also fit an XK Commander.
Key product features
- 2" diameter 0.120" wall USA made DOM tube.
- Forged slip yoke.
- Greaseable double cardan center ball.
- Built using 1310 series universal joints.
- Comes with special bolts for proper installation.
- Best of all every shaft is custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.
Note: Although the stock shaft uses 6 bolts at the transfer case, this shaft will only use 4 of those bolt holes. This is because the universal joint in the double cardan is in the way of the other 2 bolt holes.
Jeep WK drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why require a length measurement before building your shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. You can read more about how to measure in the link below.
I had been experiencing a loud howling sound in my cabin from 30+ mph, clanking sounds over every little bump, noticeable rotational howling which could have been mistaken for tire noise, and vibrations in the gas pedal every time I drove my jeep. I was getting fed up after replacing everything in the front end over the last couple of years besides the driveshaft which I had rebuilt a year prior. So, I was stuck and the only thing left to do was to actually replace the front driveshaft entirely. I'M GLAD I DID! This purchase has been the best $500 that I've ever invested into my Jeep. I tested the highway speeds of 70+ mph and the only noise that i'm hearing is from my tires and the road noise from my front diff because of the polyurethane bushings. I never thought that I would ever say this, but I'm actually happy to hear the tires again lol. Thank you for your awesome product!
Overall it’s been great. Had it installed for a week and no major complaints. Was easy to install, bolt quality is good. Has some slight vibrations around 70 but nothing you can’t get used to and nothing unexpected for it being bigger and heavier. I’m sure if I wanted I could have it rebalanced, but I’m really not worried about it as I don’t go above 55 often.
I got this shaft for my Jeep WH CRD (euro-spec of the WK). Ordered 6-bolts version and got it delivered to Europe in less than a week.
Perfect fitment and easy to install. I have no vibrations at high speed or in low range.
Definitely recommended over rebuilding the CV joints again and again.
I will get Tom's rear one if mine ever fails.
Had a clicking noise and felt vibration under my feet with my original driveshaft (110,000 miles). This happened almost immediately after installing a 1.75" front diff drop on my 2005 WK Grand Cherokee. All noise and vibrations COMPLETELY disappeared after installing the new double cardan up front! Well-built, robust design and fit my application with zero issues!
Great customer service from Tom Wood's! They were extremely helpful when they called me to double check that I had the exact measurements I wanted for my double cardan, even though I was a bit iffy and untrusty on my first sample measurements.
Will definitely come back for any driveshaft needs in the future!
After my rebuilt CV joint failed on my axle. I decided to give these shafts a try. It is a heavier unit than OEM. Replaced the CV portion with a Cardan joint. No issues with install or driving. Came with the needed hardware, service tool and instructions.
