Toyota 4runner CV Rear Drive Shaft

This is what you need if your Toyota 4 Runner is lifted and you are experiencing vibrations due to increased angles. Also a great upgrade for Toyota that came with a stock double cardan drive shaft. This is a rear shaft only and can be made any length you need from 35" to 50" long. If you are looking for a front shaft look here. If you can't find exactly what you are looking for, give us a call.

Toyota drive shaft lengths and flange patterns vary. In our experience there is no single standard length or flange patterns for any particular model. To ensure that you get the right thing you will need to take a couple measurements before ordering your drive shaft. You need to measure the distance from your transfer case flange to your differential flange. You will also need to measure the bolt pattern at each end. It is important that you measure the bolt pattern on each end because they are often not the same at both ends.

Key product features

  • Uses 1310 series universal joints. These are the most common size of u-joint there is. Replacement joints are much easier to find than stock Toyota style joints.
  • Shaft uses 2.5" diameter .083" wall DOM steel tubing. Better quality tubing than stock Toyota shafts use.
  • Can be built using our greaseable Goldseal universal joints or non-greaseable  joints.
  • Includes 8 new 10mm bolts and nuts which may be required at either end of the shaft.

Please check out our Toyota tech page below. If you have any questions along the way, give us a call.

Watch this video for a demonstration on measuring. The vehicle in the video is a Tacoma but the concept is the same for any Toyota.

Unicorn Double Cardan Rear Drive Shaft

We were at our last resort with finding a drive shaft for our customers 4runner. After reading about Tom Wood's Drive Shafts in a 4runner forum I immediately headed over and followed the instructions and ordered one. The following week we received and installed it. We were extremely pleased with results along with our customer. We will be ordering from Tom Wood's for all of our drive shaft needs. Would like to see about a sponsorship or advertisements from them if possible. T thanks for an awesome product.

Incredible quality and craftsmanship

Nothing short of incredible. My 01 4Runner had a a vibe at around 60 that shook the whole truck. Turned out my DC joint was bad. Went to Tom Woods for a replacement with the proper length and flanges. When you hold it in your hands, you can tell they sincerely care about their product and quality. Direct bolt on and no need to mess with greasing before install. Made my rig feel like it just came off the showroom floor! Highly recommend!

Only complaint is that it didn’t come with more stickers!

Smooth and direct bolt on

My 3rd gen 4Runner developed a bad shake/vibration driving home from work and I suspected my u-joints/double cardan were bad. Got onto the forums and they recommended Tom woods drive shaft! Got driveshaft and installed it in 2hrs. Fixed my vibration problem and driving like new now. Completely got rid of the vibration and shake. I would recommend!

Didn’t fix my problem, but gave me new ones.

I bought the driveshaft with hopes of fixing a vibration. It turns out the driveshaft wasn’t the problem, but I ended up developing a new vibration with the new driveshaft. I reinstalled the old Toyota driveshaft after fixing vibration (rear wheel bearing) and the strange new vibration went away. I can tell it was a good driveshaft quality wise, but I think I got a lemon :/ 2 stars because it did arrive quickly and it is a well built driveshaft, just got a bad one I guess.
