XJ Rear Drive Shaft, Double Cardan

Rear drive shaft for Jeep XJ Cherokee. Double cardan type, also known as a CV. This is what you need if your Jeep is lifted and you are experiencing vibrations or other problems due to increased angles. Shaft will require a slip yoke eliminator

Tom Wood's XJ drive shafts are built using only the highest quality components. Key features listed below.

  • 2" diameter .120" wall USA made DOM tube.
  • Forged slip yoke.
  • Greaseable CV center ball.
  • Your choice between Tom Wood's exclusive Gold Seal greaseable universal joints or Spicer non-greaseable joints.
  • Comes with new CV bolts with reduced head for ease of installation.
  • Best of all every shaft is custom built to whatever length you need. So you can be sure that you will get the right thing the first time around.Jeep XJ rear drive shaft lengths vary a bit and we want to make sure you get the right thing. That is why we require a length measurement before building the shaft. Measuring is simple and easy. You can read more about how to measure in the link below.

IMPORTANT You must also measure the joint size where the shaft attaches to the rear axle. There are two possible joint sizes. Select the size that fits your yoke.

Click here for more technical information and for photos showing how to measure for the correct shaft.

We recommend a new set of straps and bolts to securely attach your new drive shaft.

Just what I needed

Installed a 4.5 lift with stinky fab shackles on my 99 Cherokee sport, definitely needed a cv driveshaft and glad I got one from here. The videos explaining everything about driveline angle and how to measure everything were very helpful. Wish I could add a picture

Normally Don't Do Reviews

As title says, I normally refrain from reviews - but my experience with Tom Woods is exceptional and you as a prospective owner may benefit from my experience. I put front and rear 2021 Jeep Rubicon axles into my 2001 XJ and needed driveshafts. I originally went t a local, well-known driveshaft company. The lengths of both shafts I received were wrong. On the rear, the slip-joint was 1/8" from fully compressed. They apologized and said that should be about 1.5". I sent front and rear shafts back in to get re-made. Front was close but less than ideal. The rear - instead of 1.5" was now almost 3.5". Now it is too short. Also, the attachment to the SYE in the transfer case was 5/16" hex head bolts which, at best, you could only get an open-end wrench on. Far from ideal. They company was nice enough - didn't charge me anything to replace but I really lost confidence in their competence. I had used Tom Woods back in 2003 with good results so I decided to purchase the rear from them and keep the too-short shaft as an emergency spare. When the Woods drive shaft came, it was night and day difference from the first (big name) supplier. Immdeiately, I noticed that the slip joint shaft was larger in diameter with MUCH beefier splines. The woods shaft came with a tag specifically ID'g the length it had been manufactured for - of course matching what I had told them and re-assuring there were no communication errors. Nice touch. Then there was another tag of the team member who built the shaft and another name for the individual who balanced it. Tom Woods team: These are VERY nice and much appreciated touches that set you apart! Also included were instructions for greasing the shaft and even a special tool to accomplish this. And instead of hex-head bolts to attach to the SYE, Woods supplied 8mm-12pt head bolts with the 5/16 thread. These bolts were a dream to install and torque.

I'm sorry I even tried another company - but this experience is direct proof of the superiority of Tom Woods versus other (well-known) driveshaft companies. The price was virtually the same, the turn-around time was a couple of days and the product, service, attention to detail was simply night and day compared to the other company. I would simply highly, highly, highly recommend them.

Good quality product and quick shipping. Only complaint is that I didn’t receive exactly what I ordered the slip spline style was different
